Description:

Ancient Near East, Islamic, ca. 10th to 12th century CE. A fabulous flask of a substantial size, formed in a mold from semi-translucent, pale blue glass. The vessel is defined by a concave base, an apple-shaped body with a rounded shoulder, and a cylindrical neck that gradually expands to a smooth rim. The lower body is shallowly dimpled in a regular pattern. Thin red glass trails create over a dozen rings which coil around the upper neck. Size: 1.95" W x 5.4" H (5 cm x 13.7 cm)

  • Condition: Base is repaired from several pieces with a protective thin plastic coating over the base. This repair is well done and difficult to see. Completely translucent with a few ancient deposits along the applied glass on the neck. No pontil mark as the vessel was mold made rather than free blown.
