East Asia, South Korea, Goryeo / Koryo Dynasty, ca. 918 to 1392 CE. A beautiful, high-tin bronze mirror with a polished face, a petite handle, and an ornate back displaying a pair of dragons with a lotus flower at the center. Bronze mirrors that were polished on one side and decorated on the reverse were a popular luxury item coveted throughout East Asia. While they originated in China during the early years of China's development of bronze technology, circa 1700 BCE or possibly earlier, the taste for such mirrors spread beyond China's borders to Korea and Japan.   • Condition: Two small areas of loss and one perforation near periphery, as well as some nicks and abrasions commensurate with age. Some minor chips to periphery and stain of modern adhesive on reflective side. Nice remains of imagery and rich patina throughout.
