Description:

Europe, Neoclassical to Classical Revival period, ca. 19th to 20th century CE. A captivating collection of eleven European cameo and revival-style adornments spanning the 19th to early 20th centuries, each channeling the refined elegance of Neoclassical and Classical Revival aesthetics. This curated ensemble includes four brooches, two rings, a pendant necklace, a pendant brooch, a Wedgewood jasperware bezel, a molded glass pendant brooch, and a gilt brass tie pin. Finely carved profiles of Greco-Roman goddesses and muses appear in both shell and glass cameos, set in a variety of metalwork styles from twisted filigree rims to bold octagonal stampings. The materials range from copper-rich alloys with gold and silver highlights to bright nickel blends, contributing to the warm and varied patina of the collection. Size of largest (necklace pendant): 2.25" L x 1.75" W (5.7 cm x 4.4 cm); of chain: 27" L (68.6 cm); silver content of Wedgewood: 94%

A particularly striking piece features a large black-ground cameo with a silver-hued mount, while a vivid coral-hued shell cameo brooch evokes the bold palette of the Victorian period. Of note is the tiny pale blue and white jasperware cameo medallion by Wedgewood set in a high-quality silver bezel - an iconic example of British Neoclassicism. The molded purple glass brooch-pendant, set in an alloy with notable gold content, introduces a theatrical flourish reminiscent of Art Nouveau design. Together these pieces reflect a century's worth of decorative reinterpretations of antiquity - each wearable artifact a miniature portrait of timeless style and craftsmanship.
