Near East / Egypt, Mamluk period, ca. 12th to 14th century CE. A large textile fragment from a woven linen/cotton panel with a second textile register made from brightly dyed silk with an intricate pattern, mounted in a modern wood and glass frame. The register of silk threads is a separate applique sewn on top - the palmettes and what might be stylized Arabic inscriptions. Size of textile: 12" L x 9" W (30.5 cm x 22.9 cm); frame: 18.5" L x 14.5" W (47 cm x 36.8 cm)
