Southeast Asia, Cambodia, Khmer Empire (Angkor culture), ca. 13th to 14th century CE. A leaded bronze sculpture of the goddess Uma, cast to emphasize her sensuous, graceful form. She is adorned with a diadem and headdress, jewelry, and a pleated sarong that drapes around her lower body. Uma, also known as Parvati, was the revered consort of Shiva, and their union symbolized divine knowledge and cosmic balance - key themes in Khmer religious art and the monumental carvings of Angkor Wat. Venerated for her beauty and spiritual power, Uma became a favored subject among Khmer artists, embodying the ideal of divine femininity. Comes mounted on a custom stand.
