Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1292 BCE. A petite faience scarab of ovoid form, covered in turquoise-hued glaze and set in a modern 14K gold pin. The scarab exhibits typical insectile features along the topside, and a series of hieroglyphs on the underside may translate to "the goodness of Ra, the son of Amun." Size (scarab): 0.54" L x 0.40" W x 0.26" H (1.4 cm x 1 cm x 0.7 cm); (pin): 3.15" L x 0.51" W x 0.26" H (8 cm x 1.3 cm x 0.7 cm); gold quality: 14K; total weight: 3 grams

  • Condition: Wearable as shown and constructed in modern times. Faience scarab is ancient; gold pin and setting are modern. Minor abrasions to scarab, with softening to some finer details, and light fading to glaze pigment, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to overall form.
