Description:

Native American, Northwestern United States, Alaska, Inuit, Pre-Contact period, ca. 15th to 18th century CE. An interesting tool carved from walrus ivory, likely used for hunting. One side is flat, while the upper is slightly rounded with a tapering tip. A piercing is drilled through the top just above the tang. This tool could be handheld, but it is possible the tang would be hafted onto a pole or handle with a cord through the piercing to secure the head in place. Size: 8" L x 1" W (20.3 cm x 2.5 cm)
