Description:

Europe, Scandinavia, Sweden, ca. 16th to 17th century. A remarkable stone fragment, likely an architectural ornament, which features a bird sculpted in high relief. Standing in a swirling motif of intricately carved branches, the lovely creature is depicted in profile with a bulbous body, pointed wings incised with feathers, and a lengthy neck that bends elegantly backwards allowing its petite beak to graze its back. Size: 6.5" W x 5.25" H (16.5 cm x 13.3 cm); 5.875" H (14.9 cm) on included custom stand.
