North Italian School. "The Triumph of a Roman General" drawing, ca. 1580. As delineated by the Royal Athena label on the verso, this is a North Italian School pen and black ink drawing with gray wash heightened with white (partially oxidized) on blue preparation, in an inscribed compartment, ca. 1580. The composition depicts a Roman general emerging victorious from battle, riding his horse-drawn chariot while being crowned with a wreath of victory, accompanied by his entourage of soldiers and attendants. A rare 16th century North Italian mixed media drawing mounted under glass in a custom frame. Size (sight view): 7.875" L x 15.875" W (20 cm x 40.3 cm) Size (frame): 16.875" L x 24.875" W (42.9 cm x 63.2 cm)

- Condition: Artwork mounted under glass in a custom mat/frame and not examined outside the frame. According to a Royal Athena label on the verso, "Pen and black ink, gray wash heightened with white (partially oxidized) on blue preparation, in an inscribed apartment. Minor made up areas." Frame presents with some scuffs/nicks, old gallery paper on verso with Royal Athena label, and synthetic cord that we would recommend be replaced with new suspension wire.
