Description:

Native American, United States, Alaska, Inuit, Pre-Contact period, ca. 16th century CE. An interesting sled implement, made from whale bone or walrus bone, with pronged tips and perforations through the sides. Two additional piercings close together are drilled through the center near the tip. One side of the stem has been notched and smoothed to a flat surface. This piece may be part of a runner for a sled or another part for guiding through the snow. Size: 8.375" L x 2.125" W (21.3 cm x 5.4 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
