Description:

Southeast Asia, Northern Thailand, Chiang Saen region, ca. 16th century CE. A lovely Buddha head fragment cast from leaded bronze with a serene facial expression, tightly curled hair nodes, and downcast eyes. The statue is in the Lanna (or Chiang Saen) style, used between the 11th and 18th centuries CE, inspired by the confluence of cultures in the region: Khmer, Sukhothai, India, Burma, and Sri Lanka. Buddha sculptures from the mid to later Lanna period show the influence of the Sukhothai with finer hair curls, a flame shaped finial, and a thin hair band. Size: 3" Diameter x 5" H (7.6 cm x 12.7 cm); 7.5" H (19 cm) on included custom stand.
