Description:

Europe, Italy, ca. late 17th to first half of 18th century CE. A forged-carbon-steel stiletto dagger featuring an unusual four-edged blade that tapers dramatically until terminating in a needle-like point. The cylindrical handle bears incised rectangular patterns perfect for maintaining one's grip, and a discoid pommel and hand guard enclose the fighter's hand. Stiletto daggers like this example were particularly devastating weapons due to the immense piercing potential as well as the difficulty in mending the irregularly shaped wound they inflicted. Size: 12.875" L x 2.125" W (32.7 cm x 5.4 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000
