Description:

Western Europe or North America, Spain or Mexico, Spanish Colonial Period, ca. 17th to early 18th century CE. A wonderful double-edged short sword known as an espada ancha ("wide sword"). The openwork steel hand guard has a singular curved quillon and a pair of tendrils that coalesce just beneath the faceted steel pommel and grooved wooden handle. The forged-steel blade exhibits a shallow midrib as well as sharpened edges that taper to a point. Engraved on one side of the blade is "LOGIA T. BOCALLON NO. 35" as well as an illegible statement on the other side. Size: 4.75" W x 33.4" H (12.1 cm x 84.8 cm); (blade): 27.3" L (69.3 cm)
