A collection of three sections from "The Great Operas: The Romantic Legends Upon Which the Masters of Song Have Founded Their Famous Lyrical Compositions," edited by James W. Buel, Ph.D. and published by Societe Universelle Lyrique with introductions by Giuseppe Verdi and other text by other authors and famous composers. This is volume 4, 5, and 8, each bound in a leather and silk hard panel cover with thick gold leaf page edges, the Verdi edition is strictly limited to fifty copies and the front page is numbered in Roman Numerals "XXVIII." These volumes contain approximately 50 pages each: pages 165 to 214, 215 to 264, and 365 to 414, with several illustrations and engravings that are loosely mounted throughout. Operas discussed include "Tristan and Isolde", "The Magic Flute", "La Boheme", "Aida", "Sapho", and "Carmen". These are large books, the perfect coffee table addition for perusing for some interesting history and analysis written by composers. Size: 14.25" L x 1" W x 18" H (36.2 cm x 2.5 cm x 45.7 cm)
