Description:

South America, Brazil, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A delicately carved wooden sculpture of this most adored saint, most likely Saint Francis of Assisi. The drapery folds of his garments are meticulously carved. He stands upon an integral platform or dais. Eyes are inlaid with shell and appear quite naturalistic. A wonderful rendering!
