Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. 18th century CE. A devotional lead plaque depicting a serene seated Buddha, encased within a finely crafted silver frame with a suspension hoop for wearing or hanging. The Buddha is portrayed in dhyanasana (lotus position), with hands resting in the lap in the gesture of meditation, his tranquil visage crowned by a flame-like ushnisha. Behind him rises the sacred Bodhi tree, its heart-shaped leaves carefully defined to recall the moment of enlightenment beneath its shade. The frame, shaped to echo the pointed form of a temple niche, is richly decorated with delicate foliate motifs along its border, creating a refined contrast with the darker surface of the lead plaque. The presence of the hoop at the top suggests the object was intended for personal devotion, carried or suspended to invoke the Buddha's protective and enlightening power in daily life.
