Description:

Western/Northern Europe, probably England or France, ca. second half of the 18th century CE. A grand pole-mounted weapon known as a poleaxe, so-called because of the combination axe head mounted via a pair of lengthy, riveted langets. The hammered steel head projects from above a narrow socketing shaft and features a squat axe head with flared lateral tips, a curved spike with a shallow midrib on the opposite side, and a tall, triangular spear head with a thick midrib protruding from the top. Poleaxes like this example were produced by modifying the spearhead to include bladed weapons that could be employed when swinging the pole rather than just with thrusting blows. Size: 95.5" L x 9.125" W (242.6 cm x 23.2 cm)
