South Asia, India, ca. 18th to 19th century CE. A cast bronze statue of Ardhanarishvara, an incarnation of Shiva combined with Parvati, half woman, and half man- a prominent breast and dhoti covering that left side leg- the headdress is also split down the middle. The solid deity stands on a hollow pedestal with 4 arms holding various attributes. Ardhanarishvara symbolizes the oneness or shakta-shakti relationship of the unified whole- Shiva embodies everything- male and female, creation, and destruction, etc. Size: 6.75" L x 5" W x 18" H (17.1 cm x 12.7 cm x 45.7 cm)
