Description:

**Originally Listed At $250**

South Asia, India, Mughal Empire, 18th century CE. A delicate 18th century Mughal drawing from the Todi Ragini, executed in ink and graphite with gilt decoration. The composition depicts a lady standing gracefully upon an island, surrounded by four peacocks, while ducks swim among blossoming lotuses in the waters below. Behind her unfolds a dense forest and rocky escarpment, with hints of distant architecture crowning the high cliffs. The Todi Ragini, one of the classical ragas of Indian musical tradition, is often personified as a beautiful woman in a pastoral landscape, accompanied by animals that symbolize harmony and longing. The restrained palette and fine linework, enriched by subtle gilding in the corners, reflect the Mughal atelier's refined skill in merging naturalism with poetic allegory. Size: 8.3" W x 10.4" H (21.1 cm x 26.4 cm)
