Native American, Northwestern United States, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Plateau Tribes, Yakima culture, ca. 1900 to 1920s CE. A stunning beaded textile satchel with a running elk leaping majestically over a log- this entire landscape, including sky, is beaded with thousands of tiny glass seed beads! The handle is made from hide, the purple edge / verso panel are made from velvet, and the interior is lined with cotton cloth. Size: 12.5" L x 12" W (31.8 cm x 30.5 cm)

There is an old label tag that suggests this was for the "Elk Dreamer Society," however this deer is missing the characteristic thick neck and white posterior elk have. The Elk Dreamer society is primarily associated with Western Plains tribes, such as the Lakota, and initiated members often wore a pouch other items with elk motifs.
