Rookwood Pottery Vase by Edward George Diers (American, 1870-1947) dated 1902. Signed and numbered on base. A beautiful Rookwood ceramic vessel by Edward Diers presenting a classic form comprised of a piriform body and a cylindrical neck. The exterior is decorated with a flowering branch of lemon yellow dandelion blossoms and spring green leaves over a crackleware glaze of sky and slate blue hues, with the interior embellished by slate blue glaze at the neck and creamy white glaze over the remainder of the interior. This lustrous vessel is marked on the base with the Rookwood logo (a back-to-back "R" and "P" surrounded by flames), identifying shape number "927F", "II" to indicate date 1902, and an "ED" (Edward Diers) artist's mark. The Rookwood Pottery Company was founded in 1880 by the artist Maria Longworth-Nichols who created a world-renowned ceramic studio in Cincinnati, Ohio that attracted many reputable artists and ceramicists. Edward George Diers was trained at the Ohio Mechanics Institute, the Industrial Art School, and the Cincinnati Art Academy. Diers worked at Rookwood from 1896 until 1931.
