A highly sought-after first edition, first printing of "Dutch Courage and Other Stories," written by Jack London (American, 1876 to 1916) and published posthumously by his wife in 1922 via The MacMillan Company, with its original dust jacket. The codex is comprised of 180 pages with 1 frontispiece photograph of the author and 7 plates illustrated by G.M. Richards. A red fabric board with gilt lettering and black decorations covers the book, enveloped by the pictorial dust jacket showing the color image of a young boy with the mien of determination, grasping the helm of a ship as the sea roars behind him. Size: 5.2" L x 1.1" W x 7.7" H (13.2 cm x 2.8 cm x 19.6 cm)

In addition to "Dutch Courage," this book contains the sea stories of "Typhoon Off the Coast of Japan," "The Lost Poacher," "The Banks of the Sacramento," "Chris Farrington, Able Seaman," "To Repel Boarders," "An Adventure in the Upper Sea," "Bald-Face," "In Yeddo Bay," and "Whose Business is to Live," as well as a preface by Jack London's widow, Charmian London.

Born John Griffith Chaney, Jack London was an American novelist, journalist, and social activist who became one of the first American authors to gain international celebrity status. Considered an innovator of science fiction, London was a passionate advocate of unionization, workers' rights, and socialism. He is most famous for writing "The Call of the Wild" and "White Fang," both set in the Klondike Gold Rush which London joined at the age of 21 in 1897.
