Description:

Western Africa, Mali, Dogon people, ca. 1950 CE. A fascinatingly abstract hand-carved wooden anthropomorphic atop an ovoid pedestal. The seated figure has long arms and a head incised with repeated horizontal bands. The Dogon are well known for their masks and wooden figurative art. A figure like this one may represent an ancestor, whose worship is a major component of Dogon religion. Size: 1" W x 3.2" H (2.5 cm x 8.1 cm)
