Description:

North America, 20th century, human. Quite interesting and to many a bit macabre. Human skeleton used by a first year medical student and required for medical school back in the day. This particular example was purchased in the 1950's and contains most of the major and even most of the minor bones. The staff counted each bone and we believe it is 175 bones. A few of the smaller digits (phalanges and metatarsals) are missing but complete cranium, arms, legs, hips and ribs are present. As a person writing this 3 days before a hip replacement, what I found most fascinating is the condition of his hips. He had advanced arthritis and he most likely would have walked with a pronounced limp - as shown by extreme wear to the hip sockets and growths on the head of his femurs. Given these areas it can be assumed this individual lived to a nice old age. Size: (comes disarticulated and is in 3 boxes) assembled probably about 5" 6".

Note: this skeleton is legal to own in most states but cannot be shipped outside of the US and to any of the following states: Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama.

Provenance: private Goldstein collection, Denver, Colorado, USA. The Goldstein's have amassed their collection over the past six decades.
