Description:

North America, United States, ca. 19th century CE. This is truly a handsome gun! A double barrel muzzle loading rifle made by R. Ashmore and Sons with wood, steel, brass, and nickel-brass components. Two wooden ramrods fit into grooves and housings on either side of the barrels. The steel lock plate is engraved with foliate motifs and a maker's mark: "R ASHMORE & SON" before the hammer. A recumbent stag is inlaid on the right side of the backstock in a silvery nickel-brass before a brass patch box lid. The other side is inlaid with an eagle and globe emblem as well as a pointing dog. A brass buttcap covers the end of the stock to complete this beautiful gun. Size: 48.25" L x 3.75" W (122.6 cm x 9.5 cm)
