Description:

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th century CE. A remarkable leaded brass vase embellished with navy, emerald, crimson, cream, yellow, sky blue, and white champleve enamelwork. The unique vessel displays a bulbous body, a cylindrical neck flanked by two anthropomorphic handles resembling reptiles or dragons, and a flared rim. A leaded brass ring hangs from the bottom of each handle. The body of the fascinating vessel is adorned five registers of highly stylized birds and abstract floral designs with a sixth register of avian creatures decorating the vase's foot. A mesmerizing maze-like pattern is incised into the brass ground. The base of the fine vessel features a maker's mark consisting of four Chinese characters. Size: 12" in diameter x 14.5" H (30.5 cm x 36.8 cm)

  • Condition: There is a separate cylindrical metal vessel inside that lifts out easily. Some nicks/chips to champleve in a few areas. Otherwise, excellent with lovely patina throughout.
