Description:

Latin America, Mexico, ca. 19th century CE. A fine pair of hand-built iron spurs with curved bands, rectangular strap slots, integral discoid buttons, curved shanks, and pronged rowels held in place with small iron pins. Each spur displays dozens of dense vertical and diagonal stripes along the exterior surfaces, each with thin inlaid strips of silver. Mexican vaqueros (and occasional vaqueras) are the quintessential cowboy, and their techniques for managing cattle across the wide open landscapes of Mexico and what is today the American West were the inspiration for the iconic figure of America's Wild West. Size of each: 7.375" L (18.7 cm).
