Description:

North America, Mexico, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely wrist cuff formed from a strip of tanned leather that has been rounded into a conical form. The cuff is secured via a leather cord fed through several petite perforations along the separated edges, and a leather tab along the widest part is fastened with a pair of silver buttons. The outer periphery is decorated with a stamped register of repeating scalloped semicircles. Four hemispherical conchos made from high-grade (92%) silver are displayed within stamped foliate borders, with eight additional conchos surrounding a massive concho in the middle. Each concho features stamped foliate, linear, and pyramidal motifs, and the largest is encircled with a broad, curving border and miniature palmettes. Size: 4.75" W x 6.7" H (12.1 cm x 17 cm); quality of silver: 92%.

  • Condition: Minor desiccation to leather commensurate with age and tanning process, with light cracking to interior surfaces, and softening to some finer details on leather and conchos, otherwise intact and excellent. Great patina on leather surfaces and silver conchos.
