Description:

North America, southern or central Mexico, ca. second half of the 19th century CE. A forged-steel machete with a single-edged design, a thin spine, and a sturdy handle encased with two wooden panels. The form-fitting leather sheath is sewn closed along the verso and has a thick belt loop on top. Machetes like this were used for countless utilitarian purposes like harvesting crops, slaughtering animals, and carving wood. Size: 1.625" W x 22.625" H (4.1 cm x 57.5 cm); (blade): 17.6" L (44.7 cm).
