A wooden memorial plaque with the following dedication to Benito Juarez: "EN MEMORIA DE BENITO JUAREZ RESPETE LOS DERECHOS DE OTRAS Y ABRA PAS" (In Memory of Benito Juarez Respect the Rights of Others and Make Way for Peace) surrounded by a frame comprised of classical columns and an olive branch applique to the left of the inscription. Benito Pablo Juarez Garcia (Oaxaca 1806-1872 Mexico City) was a national hero as well as the President of Mexico (1861-1872) who fought valiantly against Emperor Maximilian's occupation and pursued reforms to solve the country's economic and political problems.   • Condition: Expected surface wear with fissures, chips, and abraded areas commensurate with age. Traces of a black pigmented substance to the lower left column as shown, but the inscription is still legible and the decorative program complements the plaque quite nicely.
