Description:

**Originally Listed At $600**

South America, Argentina, ca. late 19th to mid-20th century CE. An ornate horse bridle and bit made from 80% silver, nickel-silver, iron, and leather. The bridle portion contains a leather strap and buckle for securing around the horses' head, and rings that attach to the frentera style straps: thick leather studded with nickel-silver studs and ribbed or etched ornaments that hold in place the large rondel crown piece etched with petaloid motifs and initialed "A.V." The iron mouthpiece has large silver rondel bosses and bit rollers that spin freely, a popular design for a horse to run its tongue over which has a calming effect. The frentera bridle was both utilitarian and for parade in Argentina, a symbol of wealth and power for gauchos and ranch owners or estancieros. Size: 22" L x 7.5" W (55.9 cm x 19 cm)
