Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Bali, ca. 19th century CE. A hand-carved wooden handle intended to rest on the tang of a ceremonial dagger called a kris. The top portion features an abstract anthropomorphic figure, perhaps a stylized demon, who sits atop an elaborate, integral throne while holding a object behind its head. Below the carved figure is a lustrous spacer disc formed from 93% silver with 8 ovoid nodules protruding around the circumference.
