East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty to Republic period, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A group of 4 hand carved wooden panels that probably came from an ornate piece of furniture, such as a marriage bed. The open work is gilt in a high quality 70% to 80% gold pigment and features a narrative scene between several figures with scrolling background motifs. These ornate marital bed frames were traditionally part of the bride's dowry and were obviously an important and intimate part of the marriage ceremony for the bride and groom Size: 14.75" L x 6" W (37.5 cm x 15.2 cm); gold quality: 71% to 80% (equivalent to 17K+ to 19K+)
