Description:

Western Europe, Netherlands, 1855 CE; England or United States, ca. 19th century CE. A fine pair of antique copper and brass kettles. The larger kettle has a copper lower body soldered onto the upper brass top - a prominent rim where the copper and brass meet. This mid-rim held the kettle in place when used with a Dutch style tea stove which was a freestanding burner often made from wood which held an oil burner under a metal bucket liner / boiler. This kettle would be placed in the bucket - the broad mid-rim resting flush with the stove rim to trap heat. The handle is inscribed "18 HE JB 55" which we assume is the year 1855, and a monogram / initials. The other smaller kettle is entirely copper with a rigid handle, gooseneck spout, and old repairs to the underside. The handle is stamped with a maker but is too rubbed to discern. Size of larger: 10" Diameter x 10.5" H (25.4 cm x 26.7 cm)
