Description:

**Originally Listed At $150**

Northern Europe, England, ca. 19th century CE. A thin brass plate featuring a low relief hunting scene on the front and unique markings on the verso. A man on horseback with dogs pursues a stag that is bounding through a tree-filled countryside. This scene is framed with a scrolling foliate border. The verso of the plate was originally cast blank; however, hand-etched designs were created to embellish the surface. These seem relatively random in their placement, and suggest that someone was practicing their technique or attempting to personalize the plate. There is an eight-pointed star with letters at each tip, and a monogram "AVD” etched twice into the top corner. A lovely plaque that may have been part of a cigarette case or another ornamental piece. Size: 3.31" L x 2.125" W (8.4 cm x 5.4 cm)

Please note: Lucite stand in photo is not included.
