Description:

Europe / Asia, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A coconut cup mounted on an elephant ivory stem and wooden foot. The ivory stem is intricately carved with fluted ridges and fine incised grooves encircling its tapering form. The wooden circular base features a decorative band of interlocking circles carved in low relief. The coconut bowl is securely fastened with a brass threaded bolt running through the center of the stem and base, tightened beneath with a brass square nut. Inside the cup, the bolt is capped with a conical carved ivory finial. Size: 4" W x 6.5" H (10.2 cm x 16.5 cm)

  • Condition: Chips to ivory stem directly below the coconut. Hairline cracks in the coconut with cloth patched on the interior as reinforcements to this area. Cup is slightly loose, but secure.
