Description:

Oceania, Polynesia, Fiji Island, 19th century CE. Perhaps not pleasant to think about, but quite interesting nonetheless! Long wooden implement carved from a single piece of hard wood, used in the consumption of human flesh. Upon the capture and cooking of vanquished enemies, the heads of the clan were allowed the privilege of eating these poor creatures - but never using their hands. This fork has two flaring tines because flaring keeps the cooked meat on far better than just a straight design, or so we hear. Size: 17-1/2"L. Provenance: Ex-Bill Jamieson collection, Toronto, Canada. Bill was well known among his friends for his collection of the macabre. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #108923
