Description:

**Originally Listed At $600**

Oceania, Fiji Islands, ca, 19th century CE. A handsome carved wood example of an I Ula Tavatava throwing club, one of the most important Fijian weapons, made during a time when warfare was rampant in the region. This was created to be a personal weapon, and a man often carried multiples on his belt. This example has a finely incised handle with geometric decoration and was likely made by the man who wielded it. The distinctive upper part of the club - with its deeply fluted end - makes this a distinctive and instantly recognizable object. Size: 3.5" W x 15.2" H (8.9 cm x 38.6 cm); 17" H (43.2 cm) on included custom stand.
