Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. mid to late 19th century CE. A finely aged kris (also keris) with a forged-steel blade bearing a pointed guard and ribbons of lighter nickel material. The wooden handle features a pair of abstract anthropomorphic maskettes around the interior curve, and below is a petite brass spacer disk inlaid with 8 mine-cut diamonds. A copper sheath jacket covers the slender blade housing beneath a bulbous guard protector and is decorated with incised foliage on one side and an armory marking reading "16.9.1868" within a laurel wreath. Size (w/ sheath): 5.1" W x 19.5" H (13 cm x 49.5 cm); (blade): 14.75" L x 3.2" W (37.5 cm x 8.1 cm)

  • Condition: Blade housing is reattached to bottom of guard protector with thick adhesive around break lines. Loss to some beading around spacer disk, with abrasions and light staining to sheath jacket, and light oxidation to blade. Nice patina throughout. Sheath jacket is removable from blade housing.
