Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, United States or Canada, Inuit and Tlingit or Haida people, ca. 19th century CE. A collection of two items from Northwestern Tribes, an Inuit bone and slate knife and a Tlingit or Haida carved bone totemic pendant. The knife consists of a short handle made from a marine mammal or caribou, the end slotted, and sharped slate blade firmly embedded in the tip. The amulet bead is carved into a crouching zoomorph that might represent a sea monster or predatory spirit animal. The bone is hollowed out through the center for wearing as a pendant to provide protection and guidance to the wearer. Size (knife): 4" L x 1" W (10.2 cm x 2.5 cm); (pendant): 2" L x 0.75" W (5.1 cm x 1.9 cm)

  • Condition: Surface pitting to bone bead and some chips around opening rim, and some softening to finer details, overall good collection. Knife has stable pressure fissures on bone handle and natural ossification to pommel end. Stone blade is intact and firmly attached. Great patina to both.
