Description:

Western Europe, Italy, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A heavy iron and wooden grip cavalry saber, likely a model dating from 1871 to 1909. The single edge blade has a fuller running along the lengths of both sides and a rounded thick spine. The wooden grip is protected by a basket hilt, flaring knuckle and hand guard, and an issue mark and number is stamped into the steel over the wood grip. The weight of this weapon makes it ideal for wielding while on horseback and this was a sword intended for battle and conflict rather than parade, and this type was even used during the WWI era. Size: 40.75" L x 5" W (103.5 cm x 12.7 cm); blade: 34.75" L x 1.125" W (88.3 cm x 2.9 cm)
