East Asia, Japan, Meiji to Taisho period, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A fine Nambu ironware (or Nambu Tekki in Japanese) vase featuring sturdy walls that rise to a rounded shoulder and a raised rim, all sitting upon a narrow foot. The shoulder and upper body are stamped with 2 relief decorative scenes of a pagoda and a mountainscape, as well as the mark of the artist or workshop. Nambu ironware is a form of metalwork produced in Morioka City and Mizusawa, Oshu City in Iwate prefecture. It is a traditional craft that was first created in the middle of the Edo period (1603-1868). Size: 6.1" Diameter x 9.8" H (15.5 cm x 24.9 cm)
