Description:

East Asia, Japan, Edo to Meiji period, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A large, solid wooden transom features a beautifully rendered high-relief carving of a minogame - a mythical turtle with a flowing seaweed-like tail, symbolizing longevity and good fortune in Japanese tradition. The lively waves curl dynamically across the length of the panel, framing the turtle in motion and creating a strong sense of depth and movement. Carved from a single plank of aged wood, this piece shows a warm natural patina and weathering that attest to its history and craftsmanship. A striking architectural element, it would serve as a stunning decorative panel or wall art, carrying with it the rich symbolism of enduring life and prosperity. Size: 71" L x 2" W x 10.5" H (180.3 cm x 5.1 cm x 26.7 cm)
