Western Europe, Germany, ca. 19th century CE. A dashing cherub paperweight made by Meissen, one of the finest porcelain makers, est. 1710. The underside of the oblong base is marked with the emblem that was used from 1815 to 1924 -blue crossed swords mark with curved handles. The cherub has a sack of letters, a trumpet, and walking staff- a letter is clutched in his hand as he hurries to deliver it, and delicate flowers are strewn about his feet. The paperweight was a desk ornament and prevent the precious correspondences from drifting away. Size: 7.5" L x 1.25" W x 3" H (19 cm x 3.2 cm x 7.6 cm)
