Latin America, Mexico, ca. late 19th century. An impressive Mexican cavalry trooper's steel saber created in Mexico that is inscribed "A.C. MEXICO" on the ricasso. The handle has an openwork hand guard and a protruding thumb rest. The hand guard and handle grip are covered with warm brown leather that is neatly stitched so as to hug the contours of the form. The blade has a sharpened edge, a deep fuller, a thick spine, and a pointed tip. Both the handle and blade have developed attractive age patina. An impressive example! Size: 38" L x 4.5" W (96.5 cm x 11.4 cm)
