Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, Navajo, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A lovely concho belt with nickel-brass medallions on a leather strap and a round buckle. These concho medallions are considered 'first phase' because they have the classic diamond shaped opening with a narrow band across the center for looping the leather belt through. The seven larger conchos are disc-shaped with etched motifs and perforations punched along the scalloped edge. The smallest concho serves as the buckle and has a rectangular open center to fit the prong through. The backs of the larger conchos are lined with leather. Size (medallion): 4.125" Diameter (10.5 cm); size (belt): 39.5" L (100.3 cm)

  • Condition: Some age wear with cracking and fraying to leather. Three leather pads lining the medallions have been replaced with newer leather. Some areas of discoloration and nice patina to brass surfaces.
