Description:

Western Europe, probably Italy, ca. 19th century CE. A beautiful cameo featuring the bust of the Greek goddess Nike - Roman Victoria - skillfully hand-carved from seashell of creamy white and warm rose hues. Facing left, the ancient deity wears a toga with an arrow placed across her chest and plumed wings rising from the sinuous coils of her curly coiffure. Nike was the goddess of victory, speed, and strength. This cameo can be easily set into a pendant or brooch for a wearable piece of history! Size: 2" L x 1.5" W (5.1 cm x 3.8 cm)
