Northwest Coast, Kwakiutl, ca. 19th century CE. Hand-carved from cedar wood, a rattle with a large ovoid form and a narrower cylindrical handle wrapped with cord comprised of natural fiber, of the type created for Hamatsa (Kwakwaka'wakw secret society) ceremonies. Size: 2.125" W x 11.2" H (5.4 cm x 28.4 cm); 12.125" H (30.8 cm) on included custom stand.
