Description:

M.R. (European, XIX century). Man with Turban and Rifle, n.d. Signed "M.R." at lower left. Encased in an ornate, gold-painted wooden frame, this captivating 19th-century painting embodies the romanticized "Moorish warrior" archetype prevalent in the Orientalist art movement. The artwork depicts a figure, likely representing a North African man, attired in a white turban, loose garment with a red sash, and a curved sword, standing beside a detailed, decorated rifle within an evocatively "exotic" setting of light walls and a shadowed doorway. This piece serves as a tangible artifact of 19th-century European artistic fascination with the "Orient," offering not just visual appeal but also a glimpse into the historical context of Orientalism. A compelling collector's item and a striking addition to any collection, this painting is a piece of art history and a conversation starter. Size of painting: 9.25" W x 20.75" H (23.5 cm x 52.7 cm); of frame: 14" W x 25.5" H (35.6 cm x 64.8 cm)
