Description:

**Originally Listed At $300**

Oceania, Papua New Guinea, West Sepik River region, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-built earthenware bowl with a hemispherical form, a slightly conical bottom, a deep basin, and a thick rim. The exterior is covered with dense linear and geometric motifs formed via incised strokes and stippling. The surface is a deep shade of umber with nice burnishing marks. In Papua New Guinea, both men and women traditionally have been involved in the process of making ceramics. Woman typically shape the walls of the vessels, while men oversee painting and creating the motifs. An attractive and well-preserved example! Size: 7" W x 6" H (17.8 cm x 15.2 cm)
